The importance of an operational focus

Key to the 24 Hour Business Plan process are the 8 Pillars of Exectional Excellence. This is where the rubber truly hits the road for your day-to-day Business As Usual (BAU) functions.

These eight pillars, as we call them, are the fundamental channels through which your short and long-term success is fuelled.

    8 Pillars of Executional Excellence

If there were one pillar that may be the ‘less sexy’ of the eight, then that would likely be Operations. However, in recent months the operational strength and crisis management of companies like Optus, Medibank, My Deal, and others have been tested like never before.

Each company has suffered a data privacy breach of varying magnitudes. Very public breaches. Breaches of trust. Breaches of security. Breaches of compliance. Breaches of operational processes and teamwork.

The executive leadership teams within these organisations would have asked a multitude of questions of one another (and from their Board of Directors and Shareholders). The most common theme of these extremely uncomfortable conversations would be, “How did this happen”? “What do we do now”? And “how do we prevent it from happening again’?

No organisation is immune from these unwelcome intrusions – that’s a modern-day fact. However, every organisation, regardless of size, has a duty to themselves and their customers to look at their Operational Playbook and ensure it’s full of the critical dos and don’ts. The systems, the key people, the messages, the accountabilities, the reporting, and the controls.

What if your business was threatened with a public breach of trust today? Can you put your hands on your Crisis Management Plan in less than ten minutes?

At 24 Hour Business Plan, we spend quite a large amount of our time together discussing each of these eight pillars, and we focus on three critical areas for each:

    1. What are we GOOD at, and where have we got GAPS for this pillar?

    2. What are we going to START doing, STOP doing, and CONTINUE doing for this pillar? and

    3. What GOALS and TACTICS will we implement to ensure we concentrate on the activities that matter to our business?

If your business could do with some operational focus (and focus on the other seven pillars), then get in touch with the 24 Hour Business Plan team and we’ll be more than happy to help your business get ready to manage any crisis that comes your way.
